CCA Foundation Celebrates Huge Success

To and Through College Luncheon

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) Foundation held its To and Through College Luncheon on May 12th at the Hangar at Stanley Marketplace, Aurora’s newest event space.

This year, CCA Foundation wanted to engage guests while demonstrating and highlighting the immersive education approach experienced by CCA’s students. The event started with an electric performance from the Gateway High School drumline followed by a powerful and moving song composed and performed by one of CCA’s talented students.

Maureen Barker, our event chair and Executive Vice President of Treasury Services for Citywide Banks, led the event. Additionally, we had a warm welcome from U.S. Representative Mike Coffman to set the tone for the event.

The luncheon featured student speeches, performances, and award presentations. Longtime college partner, Wagner Equipment Co., was presented with the 2017 Jim Lewien Summit Award. This award recognizes a college partner that has made a significant contribution to CCA’s vision to be “the college where every student succeeds.”

“The luncheon was the most engaging charity events I have been to in a long time. I not only learned a lot about CCA’s hard-working students, but also had fun participating in the CSI experience. I can’t wait to attend next year’s event.”

Attendees took part in a mini version of CSI: Aurora, an interdisciplinary crime scene investigation and mock murder trial that CCA students participate in during the spring semester. The luncheon guests were provided with case evidence and collaborated with others at their tables to review the facts and determine the verdict in this mock investigation and trial experience.

After the experience, Darren Lemkau, President and CEO of Commerce Bank’s Colorado Region, remarked, “The luncheon was one of the most engaging charity events I have been to in a long time. I not only learned a lot about CCA’s hard-working students, but also had fun participating in the CSI experience. I can’t wait to attend next year’s event.”

The luncheon raised more than $87,000 not including the $25,000 scholarship match from Dr. Linda S. and Roger Bowman. With a combination of ticket sells, sponsorships, and Citywide Bank’s generous presenting sponsorship, the luncheon was one of the Foundation’s most successful events ever.

We thank our donors and our sponsors for the great success of this event that helped raise significant dollars to support student scholarships and programming at CCA.

The Foundation is planning its next luncheon for the spring of 2018 at the Stanley Marketplace once again. In the interim, the Foundation is planning a third-party donation initiative for the summer and fall.
